Bananera. This is located at the Bananera Jardines del Atlantico in Buzanada, near Los Cristianos where tropical plants and trees are displayed alongside a model of the island which gives an explanation of its water system. It is open daily with free buses from Las Americas & Los Cristianos.

Cactus & Animal Park. This botanical garden near Los Cristianos specialises in cacti and many plants from arid regions. The animal park houses a variety of species and next door is Amazonia a 7000 sq mtr of tropical rain forest where exotic birds fly around freely. There are game birds, parrots, hummingbirds, and reptiles. The park opens daily from 10am till 6pm and there is a free bus from Las Americas & Los Cristianos. Promoters of this venue locate themselves at various roadside locations so expect to be offered their services.

Camel Park. This is located on the road from Los Cristianos to Chayofa and is open daily from 10am till 7pm. Take camel rides or just watch these animals close up. You can take an Arabian tea or meal at your leisure.

Ecological Park. This is near Los Cristianos and has 75000 sq mtrs of tropical gardens teeming with exotic wildlife, crocodiles, penguins, elephants and birds of prey. There is also some open areas where the birds may be observed at your leisure. Free buses take you from the centre of Las Americas

Loro Park. This is situated in Puerto del la Cruz in the north of Tenerife. This Thailand themed paradise houses the worlds largest parrot collection and has brilliant dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows. It has a sea life centre where you can walk through a tunnel and observe sharks swimming around you. It also has the Gorilla jungle, Bat cave and Tiger island. It opens daily from 8-30am till 5pm and free road trains take you there from the centre of Puerto del la Cruz.

Octopus . This water theme park is located in Las Americas and is open all year round from 10am till 6pm. There are a selection of sunbathing areas plus water slides, tubes, pools and diving boards. Take a go on the Lazy River in a rubber ring or the kids can climb on the safe structures. They have dolphin shows and offer food through there restaurants and cafes.The beautiful island of Tenerife abounds with areas of natural beauty, tourist attractions, and places of special and historic interest.

The BARRANCO DEL INFIERNO is another great walk, a ravine at Adeje, outside Las Americas. The gorge contains a permanent stream, one of the few in the South. Please allow yourself more than an hour for each way of the walk and wear tough shoes.

The BOTANICAL GARDENS in Puerto de la Cruz feature a beautiful display of tropical and subtropical trees and plants. You'll find it in La Paz and it is open daily from 9am-6pm.

The CASTLE MUSEUM PARK in Los Realejos will let you uncover history about flora, fauna, volcanoes, foods and crafts. All you need to know about folklore. There are also camel rides and a kids' playground. It is open everyday from 9am-6pm

MOUNT TEIDE is the most famous tourist attraction on Tenerife. It is the highest peak in Spain at over 12000ft. Teide was formed around a million years ago and has a lunar landscape, with volcanic ash and rock. It rewards the traveller with incredible views and landscapes. Take the cable car to the upper peak for an even more thrilling day out.

The NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM in Santa Cruz gives Tenerife's story from the Spanish conquest to the present day. It is inside a wonderful 16th century building that is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

The village of MASCA was not accessible by road until recently. Situated on the road from Santiago Del Teide you will face a 6km zigzag drive. But you will be rewarded with wonderful views and an insight into past living. Hikers love the two-hour walk to the sea at the base of the Los Gigantes cliffs.

VILAFLOR is a beautiful old Canarian village. Breathe the pure air at almost 5000 ft above sea level. It's the highest village in Spain and a beautiful spot. During the winter months it can get a bit chilly so take clothing accordingly.

And if you fancy leaving Tenerife for a day or so take the ferry from Los Cristianos harbour to the beautiful and historic island of La Gomera.
