Surfing


Las Americas:

La Troya: A grey sandy beach with plenty of sunbeds and shades. Centrally located in the town centre. Handy for shops, restaurants and fast food.

Los Cristianos Las Vista: Yellow sandy beach and quite popular with holiday makers. Close to restaurants and bars. Close to harbour and ferry

Los Gigantes: Small dark sandy beach, close to sheer rock faces. Harbour quaint with many boats and easily visible fish from walls.

San Juan: Black sandy beach. Small town close for amenities.

Fanabe:

This is an up and coming area just along the coast 10 minutes from Torviscas market if you keep the sea on your left hand side. It has yellowish sand and is generally very clean. It has showers facities, sunbeds and shades.

Torviscas: This southern beach has yellow / grey sand, shallow waters, sunbeds and shades, It is close to the marina with its restaurants and bars.

Santa Cruz:

Near the northern capital Terasitas beach has golden imported sand, shallow waters, kiosk and shade from trees.A few restaurants are near by.

Puerto del la Cruz:

This is also a northern resort with fine black shingle beach sloping to deeper water with rolling surf. It is near to a sea water lido with bars close by.


Las Americas:

Conquistador is a rocky reef outlet at the back of the Conquistador Hotel in Playa de las Americas. Out-water breakers run into the rock formations. Popular with locals and sporty residents.

La Troya: Exhibits large rollers, sometimes coming in breaker walls. This creates a great ride onto a sandy beach. It is in the centre of town and more suited to the younger, more athletic surfers.

Fatenia: It has a shingle beach and reef behind Parque Santiago IIII. It is popular with locals but in windy conditions to many wind surfers may be a problem.

Las Galletas: This is a small town with rocky outlets, good waves for younger surfers and learners.

Puerto del la Cruz: Out rollers ride into breakwaters. It can sometimes be wild with strong undercurrents.

Windsurfing:

El Medano:

This is famous, flat and open with good winds and a good beach, although windy it is not too choppy, making it an excellent 12- months site for wind surfing contests. It has hosted the world championships. There is a windsurfing club, and instrution is available.

Las Americas:

Fatenia is a small area behind Parque Santiago IIII. Good rollers can be found here. Watch out for long board and body board surfers.

Snorkeling:

Puerto del Santiago:

A cove without a name, but known to informed sportsman and locals as the cauldron. It is opposite the commercial centre and accessed by steps heading down to the back of the hotel Santiago. The rocky cove is protected by outwater rocks and has three pools, usually calm starting from shallow to deeper water. Marine life abounds in the pools.
